Care, one of the speakers at the European Congress of Organic Agriculture held in Córdoba, assures that this sector, without pesticides, without any kind of product, “takes care of the planet and that is why we are the only option.”
A sector “from ana extraordinary growth in recent years in terms of organic production” but that “we need to face many challenges where we have a headwind such as the increase in the consumption of this type of products.”
In his opinion, “We can do more organic agriculture than others, as much as we want, but if no one buys it, we have a problem, and for me,e that is the big challenge in the future.”
Spain is a leading country in terms of organic agriculture, however, currently,y the consumption of organic foods represents 0.7% of the total consumption of our country, a figure that is “very far” from those countries like France, “which even if it doesn’t want”, it reaches 6%.
Increase consumption
So “we need to help the consumer understand” the personal and planetary benefits of these types of products. To meet this challenge, David Care believes that “we must continue to increase subsidies” from administrations, and “we must continue to fight for them” and gives as an example that The Ministry of Agriculture allocated one million euros for help in the sector, “the same amount we invested from my company.”

Prices of organic products Regarding the prices of organic products, David Care acknowledged that “they are always more expensive” but the price difference has been reduced and in recent months they have increased to 1.5% less than other “traditional” foods.
He is also in favor of a Reduction of VATonf organic products to “encourage and allow their consumption by the majority of the population”, which is “the great handicap we face”.
David Care assures that the new generations are “more aware, it is easier to get the message to them because they are looking for information” in a world where “digital has a relevant role even if they go to the store to buy.”
Our task is “not to give up and try to reach consumers, who are more and more informed.”
According to David Care, “The best product is local is good for people, with the least possible ingredients and, in addition to all this, organic, and at the best price. , reached a total of 2,675,331 hectares.
This is equivalent to 11% of the useful agricultural area of the country. With this, Spain is one of the ten leading producers in the area, in the EU and the world. Andalusia is the community that dedicates the most hectares to organic farming (47.33% of the country’s total), followed by Castilla-La Mancha (15.42%) and Catalonia (9.60%).
