Orioles edge out Yankees 2-1 on base-loaded walk in 11th

BALTIMORE ( Associated Press) – Aroldis Chapman scored the winning run in the 11th inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night.

The Yankees didn’t score in the extra innings either, and Baltimore eventually pushed their automatic runner into their half of the 11th. Anthony Bembaum and Calvin Gutierrez hit one-out against Clark Schmidt (0-2).

A night after throwing just four of 16 pitches for the strike against Toronto, Aroldis Chapman came on and took out Cedric Mullins before running Ramon Uriahs on a full count slider, which was just high.

New York manager Aaron Boone was dismissed at the end of the game by plate umpire Tom Hallian.

Despite taking 1 for 15 with the runners in the scoring position, the Orioles won. He didn’t need a hit in 11th.

Joey Kreibel (1-0) secured his first major league win, part of a stellar performance by the Baltimore Bullpen that has been surprisingly effective this season.

Jordan Montgomery allowed three hits in five scoreless innings for the Yankees.

Stanton’s RBI single in the third brought it into the first run of the game. Kyle Higashioka, who was entering the game with 1 for 18, took third place with a double. After Rizzo went for third on the groundout, he scored on a broken single from Stanton.

Baltimore’s Jordan Lyles allowed one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

New York had shutouts in two of their last three games, but the bid for second ended in seventh when Austin Hayes led with a double, went to third on a pass ball and scored on Matteo’s single. .
