Four Grand Slam winner and former world number one tennis player Naomi Osaka has left her coach Wim Fisset, who was with her since 2019.As told by the coach himself on his social network on Thursday.
,It has been a privilege to coach Naomi since 2019 and watch her grow into a champion.either. She has inspired a whole new generation to love the sport and speak for what she believes in,” the Belgian said in an accompanying Instagram post accompanied by a photo of the tennis player.
Fissette, who has worked with the likes of Belgium’s Kim Clijsters, Romania’s Simona Halep and Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka, was fired seven months after Osaka hired American Jermaine Jenkins to coach Osaka in 2019.
With Belgium, Osaka managed to win titles at the 2020 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open, however, the 24-year-old tennis player has not competed since last May following an Achilles tendon injury. Which kicked him out of Wimbledon.
Prior to Jenkins, Osaka also worked with German Sasha Bajin, best known as the coach of American Serena Williams (2008–2015), Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (2015–16), American Sloane Stephens (2016) and Danish Is. Caroline Wozniacki (2017).
Naomi Osaka, the daughter of a Haitian-American father and a Japanese mother, plays in international competitions for Japan.
It is unknown who will take over from Fisset as coach of the Japanese athlete.Which has not yet made any public statement on this decision.
