Over 11,000 lightning flashes in the night – now wind quickly

What will the weather be like in Switzerland in the next 24 hours? Here you are informed about everything important!

Thunder and rain gave Switzerland the coolness some people were longing for. But this is only for a short period.

The people of Graubünden must have been shocked at times on a Saturday night: in no other canton did so many lightning bolts shine in the sky. Only between midnight and 6:20 a.m., the Meteonews weather service counted 1,734 lightning bolts in the mountain camp.

For comparison: St. Gallen had the second highest brightness – with 666 pieces. It remained very quiet, with twelve and eight flashes in Geneva and Basel respectively.

Across Switzerland, meteorologists come across more than 11,000 lightning bolts, of which 4,500 hit before midnight and more than 7,000 in the second half of the night.

A lot of rain fell from the sky, especially in Graubünden, Valais and Ticino. The heaviest rainfall occurred in the Graubünden cities of Martina, Arosa and Ander, where it exceeded 30 mm.

A nice side effect of a meteorological shower: Temperatures dropped to 16 to 20 degrees during the night.

According to Meteonews, there is also a possibility of more rain and thundershowers during the day on Saturday, due to which the weather will gradually cool from the west. Thunderstorm cells last longest in the central and eastern East-Alps and Graubünden.

Downside of improving weather: It will be humid and hot with 27 to 29 degrees. That’s a far cry from Friday’s temperature, which reached 37.2 degrees Celsius in Geneva. But already on Sunday and Monday, the mercury is climbing again, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees in the north and even 35 to 37 degrees in the south.
