Guatemala City, August 17th. (AGN). The same number of Guatemalans have been issued more than 2,000 temporary work visas this year to work in the United States and Canada.
According to the data of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (Mintrab), From January to August, a total of 2,114 temporary work visas were processed and granted by Guatemala’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Similarly, the main positions offered by companies in the United States and Canada are in the areas of packaging, boat fishing, power, transportation, and construction.

The labor mobility program was made official in May 2021. The main objective is to connect Guatemalan workers with good employment opportunities arising in the foreign labor market.
In this way, regular, orderly, safe and circular migration is promoted, so that people do not put themselves in danger while traveling.
Similarly, Guatemala and the United States maintain joint agreements to promote work by granting H-2A (agricultural) and H-2B (non-farm) visas.
For this, interested parties should contact the officials of Mintrab, an organization that has designed and implemented the systems, manuals and databases.

A group of 166 Guatemalans who had traveled to that country with temporary work visas arrived in Montreal, Canada on 16 August.
As announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (Minex), the group will work in the agri-food sector.
As part of security operations carried out by the Guatemalan Consular Mission in Canada, breakfast was provided to the group. In addition, the Quebec Office of Public Health provided guidance on health and prevention.

In conclusion, the Ministry recalled its steadfast commitment to promote safe, orderly, regular and circular migration.
Authorities are continuing efforts to strengthen labor mobility programs and ensure respect for Guatemalans’ labor rights abroad.
