Taking major action on a TV channel in Pakistan, its license has been suspended for 30 days and fined Rs 10 lakh. In fact, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) took this action to raise questions on the channel’s controversial anchors by making derogatory remarks about the judiciary and stigma. This action was taken by PEMRA on Bol News on Friday.
PEMRA said in a tweet, PMERA has suspended Bol News for 30 days and a fine of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed on the channel. In a statement, PMERA said that Bol News anchor Sami Ibrahim made derogatory remarks against the Chief Justice of the High Court and other honorable judges while discussing the matter of appointment of judges in the Lahore High Court on 13 January.
Judiciary was tarnished with statements
The statement further said that in violation of Article 19 of Article 68 of the Constitution, tainted the judiciary. The channel also violated the Code of Conduct of PMERA. The authority noted that the channel failed to express its regret after the show cause notice was issued and instead said that it should be withdrawn.
Minister Fawad Chaudhary has slapped the anchor
Earlier, in April 2019, the Lahore High Court issued a notice against Ibrahim for making baseless allegations against its judges. Pakistan Science Minister Fawad Chaudhary slapped Anchor at a wedding in 2019 over organizing a talk show plotting against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Weird things are often seen on Pakistani TV channels. At times panellists clash among themselves.
