PAK will pay penalty for not acting on terror, FATF can make black list

Must read

Pakistan is once again facing the threat of being included in the Blacklist of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Islamabad is constantly providing financial assistance to the terrorists and is thriving them on its own land. The Greek City Times has reported this. Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are constantly running terror factories in Pakistan without any fear.

The FATF blacklist is a list of countries where governments do not cooperate in the global effort to tackle money laundering and terrorism financing. This global watchdog organization will consider the ‘gray list’ status of Pakistan. This means that till the next meeting of the FATF, the country covered in this list is closely monitored for financing of terror. Pakistan was included in the gray-list in 2018.

PAK gets time till February to act on terror

According to the Greek City Times report, FATF President Marcus Pleier said during a 2020 review meeting in October that Pakistan’s efforts to counter terrorist financing had serious flaws. After this, the global body gave Pakistan time to resolve these issues from 19-21 February. The FATF said that they cannot wait forever on the issue of terror.

Can’t always give me a chance to improve

Pleyer said, till we see that the country is taking action and we have also seen Pakistan doing it. We give them a chance to rectify the remaining issues, but we cannot do this forever. However, Pakistan is currently in the gray list, but if the terrorist does not take strict steps regarding financing, it can be done in the black list. The FATF will remain suspicious about Pakistan’s activities and will inspect it.
