The restaurant defended the advertisement of ‘Aaja Na Raja’ featuring a scene from Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, saying it was just a concept.
A restaurant in Karachi has drawn criticism on social media platforms for using a scene from a Bollywood film Gangubai Kathiawadi Featuring Alia Bhatt for promoting an offer for men only. In the film, Alia Bhatt played the role of a prostitute Gangubai, who becomes the owner of an influential brothel. The ad featured a scene from the film where Alia Bhatt gestured to the men to get her clients. With that poster, restaurant Swing announced Men’s Monday with a 25% discount for men. “Aja na king – what are you waiting for?” The ad’s tagline said.
The ad on Instagram received an overwhelming response as social media slammed the restaurant’s ‘cheap promotion’.
One user wrote, “You really need to see what is being put here. Using a painful scene to justify what you are presenting is misunderstanding, ignorance.”
“If you guys think this is some kind of marketing tactic and will get you some attention and customers then you are sadly wrong! Using a clip from a movie based on prostitution (which is based on someone’s real life) Just shows how low and shallow you can be just for the sake of hype,” wrote another user.
The restaurant defended the ad, saying it was just a concept and not meant to hurt anyone. Using another tagline, it said, “The film and this post are based on a concept.
