Rest Stop Viamala considers it a “forbidden picnic”.
Parent evicted from restaurant for baby bottle
Gabriella Bee (33) from Zurich wanted to give her young daughter Andrea (6 months) a bottle at the Viamala service area in Thusis. “I thought only breastfeeding was the problem,” says the mother. Far from it: The family was brutally kicked out of the restaurant.
This is actually his favorite resting place. Gabriella B.* (33) from Zurich and her husband Bernhard B.* (36) have previously stayed at the Viamala Service Area in Theses Gr. “We all bought a sandwich and left. This time we wanted to stop by for coffee and cake.” Also, the couple’s daughter Andrea* (6 months) was in need of a bottle.
Gabriella Bee and her husband were returning from a weekend trip to Italy with their grandparents. “It was just after 4 o’clock,” Gabriella says. “Unfortunately, the restaurant was only open until 4 p.m. So we didn’t get any more cakes, although some people were still eating.” Nevertheless, the mother sat down for a while at a table to prepare the bottle for the child.
Not tolerated even in the entrance area
«Three minutes ago a waiter came and said that picnics are not allowed here. I explained to him that unfortunately I could not give anything from the buffet to the child. Besides, the restaurant is closed anyway. ‘ Gabriella asked the boss again. “Then he asked us to leave the restaurant immediately. We didn’t even have time to prepare the bottle.”
Gabriella told Blick, he then tried to do the whole thing in the entrance area. “But the boss came again and drove us away from there too.” The 33-year-old hardly believes it: “I thought only breastfeeding was the problem. Now that happens to me with a pint! We were treated like criminals.”
“didn’t want to do this on the toilet”
The only option would have been to give a bottle to the child on the changing table in a paid toilet. “But I didn’t want to do that on the toilet,” says mom. “So we redeemed our toilet tickets, bought a drink and left.”
When asked by the manager of the rest stop, he did not want to say anything about the incident. But in one of the videos you can hear the family leaving the building. ‘You are feeding yourself here. It’s not possible,” he says.
Solid Google Reviews
Gabriella B.: «We only wanted to give a bottle to a baby. I think it’s sad that something like this happens to a decent young family. It never occurred to me that this could be a problem. This is not a gourmet temple, it is a rest stop.”
As can be seen from Google reviews of rest stops, many other travelers complained about the staff’s lack of friendliness. In at least one case there should have been expulsion earlier. The reviewer in question says he also bought some in the service area: “If you buy something in the store, regardless of the season, you are sent out of the building to consume it!”
