PCB hands Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi red ball and white ball contracts

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been placed in Category A of both the white-ball and red-ball contracts announced recently by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Pacer Hasan Ali and opener Imam-ul-Haq are the only players to have been given both contracts. This is the first time that the board is signing different contracts for different formats. The annual contracts are due to take effect from 1 July.

Red and white ball contracts:Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi (all Category A), Hasan Ali (Red Ball Category B, White Ball Category C) and Imam-ul-Haq (Red Ball Category C, White Ball Category B)

Apart from these, 10 players have been given red ball contracts and 11 white ball contracts. The Emerging Contracts list has been given to seven players, which is more than the three players given last year.

In the white-ball contract list, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan have been promoted to Category A, while Haris Rauf has been promoted to Category B. Commenting on the latest contracts, chief selector Muhammad Wasim said, “I would like to congratulate all those who have earned central contracts for the 2022-23 season, especially our four young players who have been red-balled for the first time. The contract has been received. Our vision and strategy to identify, prepare and develop experts for the traditional and purest format of the game.

“I understand that there will be some disappointed players who have missed out on contracts, but I want to reiterate that we are not limited to these 33 players and will include players from the list as and when required.

“We have increased our budding cricketers category from three to seven because it is very important for us to groom cricketers who have the potential to rise to the top level and encourage those players who have played in our domestic tournaments. Has excelled in.”
