ANAHEIM, Calif. ( Associated Press) — Jeremy Pea got an even more rare than his first major league home run on Friday night.

The Astros rookie got to see the expressions on his parents’ faces when they made that dream come true.

Pea joined for the first time while parents Geronimo and Carmen Cecilia were being interviewed on the broadcast, creating a moment for the highlight reels as Houston beat the Los Angeles Angels 13-6 on Friday night.

Justin Verlander told Pea about the interview when he came back to the dugout, and the 24-year-old got to see it after the game.

“It was great,” said Pea, who had his first hit and homer in his locker after the game. “You don’t plan it. So when he told me he got him on camera, it was great to see.”

Kyle Tucker hit two of Houston’s six homers, also joining Jose Altuve, Aldemis Diaz and Alex Bregman. This is the 16th time Houston has had at least six homers in a game, and five of them since 2019. The Astros had 14 hits.

“I mean, this is what this team is capable of doing. When I came here (in 2020) people were saying it happens quickly. It happens fast,” manager Dusty Baker said.

Jared Walsh had three hits and two runs for the Angels.

Houston’s rookie replacement Pea got his first major league hit with a second inning single at shortstop after being signed by Carlos Correa with Minnesota. He then drove from seventh to left-center while his mom and dad were leaving stand in interview by Apple TV+.

“I am happy, happy now,” said Geronimo Pea.

Homer played an eight-run knock, including a three-run shot from Tucker, to extend Houston’s lead to 12-2. Tucker added a single shot in the ninth.

Pea said getting hit in the third took some of the pressure off.

“I just play the kid. You have plenty of time to get serious,” Baker said. “Just go out there and play to the best of your ability. It feels great when you see a kid doing something great.”

Rafael Monteiro (1–0) was the winning pitcher while Oliver Ortega (0–1) lost.

Altuve took Reid Detmers to the left on the fifth pitch of the game. It was the 22nd career leadoff homer for the Astros second baseman.

Angels responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. During the reign of AL MVP Shohei Ohtani scored his first hit of the season, a bloop single to center, second on Anthony Rendon’s hit and Walsh’s single. Rendon later scored a pass ball.

Both the starting pitchers played four innings and conceded two runs. Houston’s Jake Odorizzi scored two while the Daters bounced back from Altuve’s leadoff homer to dismiss three.

“Their velocity early on was probably a little too high,” Angels manager Joe Maddon said of the Detmers. “I thought he better settled down. He started using the slider more as opposed to just a curveball.”

With Apple TV+ playing the game, Jose Siri made a diving catch in the center to smash Brandon Marsh with a hit and scored a go-forward in fifth.

A ball flying to the left from Martin Maldonado took the lead in fifth, stealing second and moving to third.

Siri looked as though she was about to finish third behind Altuve’s grounder, but as Rendon threw first, he broke for home. Walsh could have had a chance to dismiss Siri with a good throw, but it was a high toss.

The Angels were on the verge of taking a 3-1 lead at first after Marsh’s single from left to left, but Michael Brantley made a brilliant throw that led to a bounce, before catcher Maldonado tagged Walsh to the plate. gave.

Brantley has had 57 outfield assistants since 2011, ranking ninth among active players.
