A Brackenridge police officer was shot and killed on Monday and another officer was injuredPolice informed. The suspect was later shot and killed by police, law enforcement sources told CBS Pittsburgh.
Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns told the outlet Monday night that police found a wanted suspect, who has been identified Aaron Lamont Swan, 28, and took part in a foot chase that lasted several hours. There were two shooting incidents several blocks apart.
in one, One officer was shot in the head and diedKearns said. The deceased officer was not publicly identified at the start of the incident, but was later identified as the Brackenridge Police Chief, Justin McIntyreWho were prominent since 2018.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro Tweeted: “Police Chief Justin McIntyre risked danger to keep Pennsylvanians safe, and made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the community.”
After this, in the second incident, another officer was shot in the leg. Kearns said the officer was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.
According to police, the suspect was injured, but managed to escape after stealing the vehicle. However, Swan was later shot and killed in another shootout with police shortly before 7 p.m. local time in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood.
The police said that the people who owned the stolen vehicle were not harmed.
Swann was originally wanted for an alleged weapons violation of his probation.And the police traced her on Sunday night, but she managed to elude them after a chase.
Brackenridge, a small district in Allegheny County, is located approximately 22 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
