According to the affidavit, the student told investigators that he contacted Freed around 2015 after becoming popular among students at the high school’s service center. The document states that at the time, the student was studying at Williamsport Area Middle School.
The affidavit said police say the student had begun to believe he might depend on Freed for emotional support following the death of a member of his family. The student said he “trusted ‘Freed’ like an older brother,” the document says.
Court documents state that negotiations within the institution turned into “multiple after-school conversations,” which began in 2015 and progressed until 2018, when the student graduated from high school. The affidavit states that the sexual relationship should continue till April 2022.
The student told police that Freed offered to take her to various places for “one-on-one conversations”. The document said he said he and the principal were “‘brothers’ and could talk about anything,” specifically the student’s sexuality.
The affidavit states that in 2017, the student and Freed discussed pursuing a sexual relationship one night while driving through Williamsport.
After walking into a parking lot, Freed said to the student, “You promise not to tell anyone?” “This may result in loss of my job,” the affidavit said, while massaging the student’s shoulders.
According to the document, after the first alleged sexual encounter, the student told investigators that Freed “emphasized the importance of not telling anyone and that their relationship was private”.
According to the affidavit, the student said that he feels “extremely guilty of the sexual encounter”. The document said the two continued to have sex “4–5 times a week, always at night, for the next two years of high school.”
The affidavit said the student told police that she continued to have an emotional and sexual relationship with Freed for the remainder of her senior year in high school and college, detailing multiple sexual encounters.
Freed was produced on Tuesday and his bail was set at $175,000.
