“Monaco is a race that I’m really looking forward to. I’m going there for the first time and if there’s one thing that’s clear to me, it’s that it’s going to be a very busy weekend. This ‘Full Street’ track But it will be my first experience, and I think the F3 car will be very quick. It’s a great opportunity to learn a new circuit and get experience with the car on this kind of track,” says Pepe.
Pepe’s last race comes back in Australia, also a street circuit, though not as demanding as Monaco. On the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the track is narrow, with rails on the asphalt floor and any mistake is very costly.
“We have four days to shoot but only one batch per day and we have to play our cards right. We have to be very precise in the work we do during practice and make the most of every second. You have to learn a new circuit that doesn’t forgive mistakes and get to know a new set of soft tyres, so there’s a lot of work to do”, says Pepe.
There’s a lot to do especially on this Thursday, the only free session. Forty-five minutes where you play hard and where one initial mistake can ruin the whole weekend.
The Campos Racing driver, like his rivals, has not raced for nearly two months since Australia on April 2. But he tested in Barcelona and Imola and he arrived with hope as he rode well among the top riders on both circuits.
“We are very motivated to make the most of the weekend,” says Pepe, who is fifth in the championship. But while many rivals see him as a reference, his return in Australia, from 30th to seventh, was one of the most relevant performances in current F3 history.
