Cech was hired for his role by Granovskia three years ago and has been instrumental in several transfers and football decisions. Most notably, he was credited with instigating the £20 million signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy by former head coach Frank Lampard, which proved to be a bargain.
Cech’s departure also means that current head coach Thomas Tuchel has now lost the entire football structure he worked with since being appointed by Chelsea in January 2021. The German has on several occasions spoken positively about his working relationship with Granovskia and Cech. ,
Bohli added: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step down and thank him for his contribution as a mentor and his commitment to the club and our community. We wish him the best give.”
Tuchel has already started working closely with Boehly and, as first revealed by Telegraph Sport, has been given a lot of power in transfer decisions by Chelsea’s new owners, while also signing six new ones. The promise is being made.
This is reflected in the fact that Boehly agreed to allow Romelu Lukaku to rejoin Inter Milan for the next season in exchange for only a £7m loan fee for signing a club record £97.5m.
Lukaku’s move is expected to be finalized in Milan on Wednesday after the Belgian undergoes a medical.
Cech made it clear that he felt Chelsea should have kept Lukaku for a second season and worked hard to make the move work.
Just days before Bohli and Tuchel approved Lukaku’s return to Inter, Cech said: “I personally believe he will have a great season. Last season we saw how strong he can be in the beginning when he comes.
“But unfortunately, he remained in the game due to a prolonged injury. [Aston] Villa slowed everything down and then he too got covid.
“I think we could look towards the end of the season, when he was fit and ready to go again, how strong he is. I am sure he will come back and strengthen the season.”
