Peugeot is working to offer, by 2025, the widest range of electric cars on the market. To do this, it not only wants to fill every part of an electrical representative, but will try to offer options that are superior to others. Both in design, technology, quality and performance -also autonomous-. As with the current range, the e-3008 will play an important role in its plans, as it will be in charge of dominating the SUV segment, the most demanded in the market.
The French company has already revealed its flagship and, seeing its details, few can argue that Peugeot’s bet was not only risky, but also winning. The formula used is to take everything available for the brand and the Stellantis group, improve it and give it autonomy that can rival the best diesel engines.
Maximum electrical autonomy
The new Peugeot e-3008 manages the launch of the new STLA Medium platform from Stellantis, which will gradually replace the well-known EMP2 -skeleton of the current 3008, for example. The particularity of this architecture is the ability to offer 100% electric versions like this e-3008 and to put batteries that can reach, in this case, 700 kilometers of autonomy between charges. As for propulsion, it offers the possibility of mounting one or two motors on each axle, with all-wheel drive or single-axle traction.
In the case of the new e-3008, it will hit the market with two battery options and three power options. First, it has a 73 kWh battery for 525 kilometers of distance between charges that can be combined with one or two electric motors for single-axle traction and 210 HP power and all-wheel drive and 320 HP, respectively. At the same time, a version is available with a 98 kWh battery capacity, an electric motor and 230 HP power. This latest version is able to reach 700 kilometers of autonomy. It is noted that the “small” version of the battery is already positioned among the most capable electric cars on the market, especially in its segment, so the 98 kWh battery makes the e-3008 a leader in terms of of autonomy.
Regarding charging, the new e-3008 can be charged with a maximum power of 160 kW of direct current to fill 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes. In addition, it supports charges of up to 11 kW of alternating current power, or up to 22 kW as an option. When charging the vehicle, the e-3008 can also power electrical devices, appliances or even bicycles, supplying up to 3 kW and 16 A.
Dynamically, Peugeot promises exceptional maneuverability in the city with an inside turning radius, and unprecedented comfort for the brand thanks to the work on the chassis, which seeks maximum comfort without losing control. Likewise, the driver has four driving modes at his disposal (Normal, Eco, Sport and 4WD -only in the two motor versions-) to find the driving experience he wants in each case.
Latest technology
One might think that its electrical arguments are enough to stand out in the market, and certainly put it in an advantageous position over its rivals, but Peugeot does not want to neglect any detail and works to provide the most excellent in all fields. In terms of technology, it has the latest in connectivity and active safety to offer the best possible experience to the driver and his passengers.
Starting with the connection, the changes are visible inside, when the driver enters and finds Peugeot’s new i-Cockpit concept with a panoramic design thanks to its 21-inch curved panel that offers information from on the instrument panel and the central screen. This solution, both technological and design dome, is combined with the Head-Up Display on the windshield and the new touch layout of the steering wheel controls to create the most technological interior in the history of Peugeot. There is no shortage of i-Toggles, the common shortcuts on the center console, now tactile.
The Peugeot i-Connect and i-Connect Advanced operating systems – standard on the GT trim – are responsible for the connection, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and navigation functions, through the TomTom navigator with trip planner , a system considered a wide range of options to calculate the ideal route, from chargers, to average speed, traffic, type of road… In addition, it has the OK Peugeot voice recognition system to access all the its functions.
Finally, safety technology goes one step further in this e-3008 with the new Drive Assist Plus, a semi-autonomous driving system that combines adaptive cruise control, semi-automatic lane change and speed recommendation to help the driver. . This system is added to a wide catalog of other functions such as blind spot control, descent control or emergency braking, among others.
In terms of design, the new e-3008 represents a revolution in relation to the model we know so far. Peugeot explains that aesthetically, this model represents the gateway to a new electrical era where design has style at the service of efficiency.
In that sense, this SUV takes the Fastback concept so popular with Stellantis (Peugeot 408, Citroën C4 X and C5 X) to adapt it to the crossover segment. This allows the strong lion to maintain the characteristics of SUVs (stability and length) of sedans (sportiness and elegance), combining everything in the same car.
Under this philosophy, the new e-3008 stands out for its dropped roof, which provides sportiness – and better aerodynamics – and distinguishes it from its predecessor. From the front, the new slanted headlights draw attention, in a very high position above the three LED daytime running lights that form the lion’s claws. At the rear, the drop of the roof culminates in a sharp spoiler, which crowns a very inclined rear window. Below it, the LED headlights from the trunk lid to the sides of the car are joined by a black strip that unites the brand name. Its wheels of up to 20 inches round out a new and attractive package.
The interior, beyond the aforementioned i-Cockpit, offers enough space for five occupants, thanks to its 2.73 meter wheelbase, quality materials typical of the premium spectrum of the market, 17 different storage spaces and two USB-C sockets. The trunk has up to 520 liters of capacity, 470 in the case of the version with two electric motors.
Orders are now being accepted for the new Peugeot e-3008, which will arrive in February next year. Along with electric, it also has electrified variants, currently based on 48-volt microhybrid technology -ECO label-.
