This time Peugeot wanted to forestall a leak and take the opportunity to raise more expectations: it not only announced the presentation date of the new generation of the 3008, but also fully revealed its design and waited for its technical characteristics and equipment that we will find out later . Next September 12th.
As we expected, the main change will be its silhouette: it is no longer a traditional sport utility, but opts for a style more similar to that of a coupe, with a clear inspiration from the 408. This is how it will try You to stand out more from the 5008, which maintains a more familiar proposal.
The front received a more aggressive appearance with a kind of double grille that connects the headlights with another, much larger one, on which the brand emblem and light signature in the form of three claws are located. Below there is a trapezoidal air inlet and two duct channels at the ends. Its entire body features more distinctive and taut lines, as in the new 308 and 408 models. The future 3008 also grows slightly in size – which in turn allows it to leave a greater gap with the 2008 – but retains its EMP2 platform for the versions with an internal combustion engine, yes, with an important evolution to adapt it to the new technologies and systems that it will equip. The electric versions, like those in the press photos, will use the new STLA Medium architecture.
Inside, the 3008 features the new i-Cockpit Panoramic concept, which consists of a huge, curved 21-inch HD screen that extends from the left edge of the dashboard to the center console. Together with a rear foot that is not visible from the passenger area, it gives the feeling of floating above the dashboard, an effect further enhanced by the LED ambient lighting – in 8 different colors. Also new are the new i-Toggles, which now transform into fully customizable touch buttons that can be programmed to provide quick access to 10 of the user’s favorite functions. Finally, the steering wheel has also been redesigned: the center is smaller and “isolated” from the spokes to create a floating effect similar to the dashboard screen. The buttons have been replaced with “tactile clicks” that automatically detect the driver’s fingers but are only activated when pressed to avoid incorrect movements.
The other key to the third generation C-SUV will be its mechanics. Although there are no exact technical details yet, it is known that the range of petrol engines and plug-in hybrid versions will be retained, but there will no longer be space for diesel options. The e-3008 deserves special mention, which, with its new modular STLA Medium platform, is offered in three different variants or configurations, one of which has two motors for four-wheel drive and a battery for up to 700 kilometers of autonomy.
