Pharmacies go from zero to a hundred in the blink of an eye in the sale of antigen tests for the detection of covid. Queues have been repeated at establishments in the city to stock these items, as well as masks, due to the increase in positive covid cases in recent weeks. Currently, no shortage is expected. Although in five days in September a third of the tests sold in the entire month of August are given, explained the president of the Official College of Pharmacists of Segovia, Marta Ruano.
It all started in mid-August. “From that moment it was a constant trickle,” he stressed. No data has been released on the number of antigen tests obtained by Segovians in recent weeks, but Ruano assured that the demand “has increased significantly.” Customers want Covid nose tests. “Some also buy the flu, but most prefer to deny that they have covid and that’s it,” he stressed. Regarding the saliva test, he warns that “you have to spit with sputum and that is unknown, so it always gives false results,” he details.
Pharmacies also understand the greater interest in buying masks, although the population “doesn’t usually enter the establishment to buy them with them.” For this reason, “we think that maybe in the future we will have to wear it again,” said the pharmacist. In his opinion, the sale of detection tests only offers an indication of the covid situation in Segovia, because “it is difficult to know” the reality since positive cases have not been recorded.
“What we think is that maybe we should go back to the mask in pharmacies”

“We don’t know if those who came to shop were infected or not,” he said. “There are people who are telling us and telling us the symptoms they have, but we don’t know yet,” he said. Pharmaceutical establishments advise to “be responsible” and take precautions, such as wearing a mask if there is a possibility of infection. “It’s all there, but a lot of fear is gone,” he concluded.
