Pochettino has no idea about Mbappe’s future

PARIS ( Associated Press) — Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino said Friday he has no idea if Kylian Mbappé will leave the team, amid speculation he could join Real Madrid.

Mbappé, whose contract expires in June, said he will make his decision public before the end of the month.

“I don’t know what his decision will be. I think it’s a personal matter for Kylian and for the club,” Pochettino said before PSG’s last game of the season. “There are a lot of rumors going around.”

It could be that Mbappé will play his last game with PSG this Saturday, when the French league campaign ends. The already crowned league champions will host Metz and Mbappé will seek to further increase his bill as leading scorer with 25 goals in the season and a total of 168 since joining the club from Monaco five years ago for 180 million euros (190 millions of dollars).

At the press conference before the match, Pochettino was asked about Mbappé’s future. The Argentine said that he personally hopes that the French striker will choose to stay in Paris.

The coach is unsure about his own future at the helm of the Parisian team due to reports in the French press that the club could replace him next season.

“I still have a year left on my contract,” Pochettino acknowledged when asked if Saturday’s game would be his last in charge.

PSG rejected the same amount for which they signed Mbappé when Madrid tried to buy him last preseason. Now the Spanish team could keep him for nothing.

After winning the league’s best player award for the third time on Sunday, Mbappe said he had pretty much made up his mind, but did not say in what direction.
