Podemos wants the judge in the Neurona case and all those who made a “law” against the party “to be reformed” and to be “judged.” Party spokesperson Isa Serra made this request after Judge Juan José Escalonilla decided last week to close the investigation of the case against Juan Carlos Monedero after three years and remove the party itself.
“We demand that the judges who conspired against Podemos be held accountable and judged and that the media that has dedicated many front pages against Podemos now dedicates the same time to saying that it is a political operation against Podemos,” Serra said Monday at a conference. in the press.
Since 2020, Judge Escalonilla has been investigating a complaint from the former lawyer of Podemos, José Manuel Calvente, in which he pointed to half a dozen accounting irregularities within the political party. Most of these pieces of investigation, including the one investigating whether Minister Irene Monteró illegally used party workers as nannies, were archived and the magistrate only investigated some invoices paid or sent in 2019 by the consulting firm Neurona. the party and on the part of Juan Carlos Monedero, a part of the cause that decided to close last week.
The magistrate explained that everyone is still waiting for a final expert report that will determine whether or not the party’s payment to the consulting firm in Mexico is legal and if there is some kind of electoral crime, but he decided to close the case against Monedero. On the part of the party, accused in the case, the judge issued an order rejecting their request to file the case but signed another in which he accepted to set aside the formation of Ione Belarra since the electoral crime being investigated cannot be attributed to the political party.
Serra described this investigation as a “campaign of defamation” that lasted three and a half years “based on lies thanks to the media and some judges like Escalonilla.” “This is another of the proceedings against Podemos and another of those archived,” recalled Serra, who took the opportunity to demand that all the judges who “conspired” against the party be held accountable.
“This is not only a campaign against Podemos but against democracy, the law is trying to overthrow democracy. That is why we want to insist that it does not end here, that there is a charge against Podemos, against democracy and no more it will happen again,” he concluded.
