Poland’s steps to increase its defense capabilities have not stopped happening. The state military equipment company PGZ agreed with the European missile firm MBDA the development of a new medium-range interceptor missile originally developed for the United Kingdom Cam. The new weapon, developed within the previous agreement between Warsaw and London, is intended for use from naval and land platforms.
The new alliance, signed under the formula of a letter of intent between PGZ and MBDA, derives from the agreement signed between the governments of the United Kingdom and Poland to advance the development of the future common weapon based on the family of common modular anti-aircraft missiles (Cam), as part of the strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and Poland with the year 2030 as the horizon.
The new missile Camm-MR can add to the previous gains of Cam y Camm-ER within the Polish frigate program Sword fish and modernization of the country’s air defense Pilica+which also includes the system Wislaformed in the top-level American systems Patriot and the Narew middle level, which is also supported by MBDA in PGZ.
The purpose is that this initiative “serves the Polish and British Armed Forces as common ammunition with a dual source of production”, as explained by the president of PGZ, Sebastian Chwałek.
