Police: Pedestrian killed by LI restaurant after being hit by drunk driver

NEW YORK — A man leaving a Long Island restaurant was struck by a drunk driver Wednesday afternoon and is now under arrest, according to police.

According to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad, police received a call about an accident in Woodbury around 2:32 p.m.

Detectives say police responded to a car accident in the parking lot of the On Parade Diner located on the Jericho Turnpike.

Reportedly, Willem Specht, 62, got into his gray 2004 Infiniti sedan where it backed south and hit another 61-year-old man who had just left the restaurant.

The pedestrian suffered severe shock and was taken by Nassau County ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m.

Specht remained at the scene and was arrested. He has since been charged with drunk driving, second degree reckless endangerment, second degree assault, second degree vehicular manslaughter and second degree murder.

Action is to be taken on this on Thursday.

Information was not immediately available from Speech’s attorney.
