Police release video investigating Baldwin film-set shooting

SANTA FE, NM ( Associated Press) — Law enforcement officials on Monday released a collection of video evidence in the ongoing investigation into the fatal October shooting of a cinematographer by actor and producer Alec Baldwin on the set of a Western film.

Data files released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office included a video of investigators debriefing Baldwin talking with him inside a compact office within hours of the fatal shooting. The investigation files also include rehearsal clips that show Baldwin in costume as he practices a quick-draw maneuver with a gun.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a statement that the investigation by his agency is open and ongoing as it awaits results of ballistic and forensic analysis from the FBI, as well as fingerprints and DNA studies.

“The sheriff’s office is releasing all files related to our ongoing investigation,” he said in the statement. Those files also include photographs of ammunition from the set and test reports.

On October 21, 2021, at a farm on the outskirts of Santa Fe, Baldwin was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halina Hutchins when it went off, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. They were inside a small church during the setup to film a scene.

In a video taken by police later that day, Baldwin makes some frantic calls as he awaits a meeting with law enforcement officers.

“You have no idea how incredible this is and how strange it is,” he says over the phone.

New Mexico workplace safety regulators last week issued the maximum possible fine of nearly $137,000 against the “Rust” film production company.

New Mexico’s Bureau of Occupational Health and Safety stated that Rust Movie Productions must pay $136,793, and distributed a scathing narrative of safety failures in violation of standard industry protocol, including testimony that production managers set the stage before the fatality. but took limited or no action to address the two misfires. Shooting.

The bureau also documented gun safety complaints from crew members, which went unheard, and said that weapons experts were not allowed to make decisions about additional safety training. Rust Movie Productions has indicated that it will dispute the findings and approval.
