Automobile firm Porsche has agreed with Cherry Street Energy, the largest solar power provider in Georgia (United States), to build and operate a solar power microgrid on One Porsche Drive.

Installation of the solar microgrid will begin in September and is expected to be completed in 2023, kicking off a 25-year operating agreement between Porsche and Cherry Street Energy, which will own, operate and maintain the microgrid, selling electricity to the German firm.

One Porsche Drive is the subject of an investment of $50 million (49.3 million euros at current exchange rates) which includes the construction of a second driver training track open to the public, which will be operational in early 2023.

In addition to a solar-powered microgrid, the campus will use specially formulated concrete to reduce its carbon content, benefit from extensive water reuse and recycling, non-irrigated indigenous landscaping solutions, green walls and biodiversity. This will include a comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The new campus expansion is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, which recognizes the high standards of leadership in energy and environmental design, which have already been awarded to the existing One Porsche Drive campus.
