“Most of our hill is now open for night sessions and we are very happy about that,” he said.

He urges people to plan ahead and buy tickets online in advance because Cascade will cap bandwidth for the second season in a row. It was limited last year by the COVID-19 pandemic and made it more convenient for guests and workers alike, Waltz said.

“It was one of those things that we would never have known if it weren’t for the circumstances, but yes, it’s just the difference between day and night,” he said. “People were getting more runs, our employees were a little less stressed because the crowds weren’t even close to the size we had seen before.”

Reducing the number of crowds did not hurt business profits. Waltz said it seems to force people to plan ahead and visit more on weekdays, not just weekends.

He declined to name the number that Cascade is limiting visitors, but said it was “significantly less than on a typical Saturday in previous seasons.” Buying online is the only way for skiers and snowboarders to make sure they can ride in the snow, he said. According to the website, online pre-purchase is required on weekends and holidays.

Season ticket sales this year are on par with the past two seasons, which Waltz said were “great.”
