Hydro Ottawa is reporting a major power outage in Nepean. Hydro One is also reporting significant outages to the west and south of the Hydro Ottawa region.
The utility company said after 12:45 p.m. that 27,000 customers were without electricity bordering 416 to the west, the Ottawa River to the north, West Hunt Club Road to the south and Merivale Road to the west.
Hydro Ottawa says a loss of supply from the provincial grid is to blame for the outage.
“We are working with Hydro One to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” Hydro Ottawa said in a tweet.
Estimated restoration time for most customers is 6:30 p.m., but some estimates extend as far as 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
Hydro Ottawa said crews were making emergency switching to get power back to as many people as possible while the utility waited for provincial supplies to return. Around 4,600 customers remained without electricity till 2:45 pm.
Thousands of people in Eastern Ontario
Hydro One reported thousands of customers in the West and South of the Hydro Ottawa area without electricity. The reason for the outage is unknown.
More than 5,000 customers lost power in rural west Ottawa, but most quickly restored it. More than 6,600 people lost power in Arnprior, but the power went out by 1:45 pm
Greely also has over 2,300 customers without electricity. The estimated time of his reinstatement is 3 pm
