President Joe Biden arrives at Long Beach airport on the evening of Sept. 13 on his long-awaited trip to California to campaign with Governor Gavin Newsom ahead of tomorrow’s recall election.
The president pulled into Air Force 1 at around 6:10 p.m. on the airport’s tarmac, where he and Newsom both exited the plane to attend the event in the presidential convoy. The pair waved, but no questions asked of nearby media, headed straight for the campaign event at Long Beach City College.
Both Biden and Newsom came straight from Sacramento for another recall campaign event.
Arriving at the campaign event, the presidential convoy met protesters outside the college, who booed the pair and were waving American flags, the video shows.
Speaking at the campaign event, Newsom urged audiences in the campaign program to vote “no” on the recall, adding that California has “a lot more at stake” if the governor is removed from power.
“What makes California great is that we can live together and move forward together and prosper together in every conceivable difference. It’s a remarkable thing, it’s really … That much defines it, that’s all on the ballot tomorrow. Racial justice is on the ballot last night, economic justice is on the ballot last night, social justice is on the ballot last night, Long Beach environmental justice is on the ballot last night,” Newsom said .
Coming after Newsom, Biden also urged voters not to vote on the recall, claiming it would reverse an action taken by Governor Newsom.
“The decision you are about to make is going to have a huge impact on California; This is going to resonate across the country, and quite frankly – not a joke around the world,” Biden told the audience at the campaign event.
“You all know last year I got to run against the real Donald Trump,” Biden said. “This year, the dominant Republican running for governor is the closest thing to a Trump clone I’ve ever seen in your state. That’s exactly what I mean. He’s leading the other team; he’s a Donald Trump clone. Can you imagine that he is the governor of the state? You cannot let this happen. A lot is at stake.”
