The investigative file against former President Carlos Salinas de Gortari exists, the journalist confirms today Raymond River Palace after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that it was false.
This Wednesday, the president reacted and even mocked Riva Palacio’s column “The October Surprise,” in which the journalist claims that the current government is trying to “indict Salinas for torture and violation of due process against Mario Aburto.” Presidential Office and Cisen. All for electoral purposes.
“Your source at Patio Central says that I’m going to hold Carlos Salinas accountable – that’s his note, right?, his note – that I’m going to hold Carlos Salinas accountable because Aburto, the one who supposedly murdered Colosio, will blame him. . No, no, not supposedly, yes, he was the one who murdered Colosio. Because I will hold Salinas accountable for torturing Aburto. “So where did this guy get that from?” he said this Wednesday morning.
López Obrador even sent a message to Salinas to “not worry, because I have not received a single report or letter about it, but this one has already flown (Riva Palacio).”
In his article today, the political analyst assures the president that it is not a scam since the folder exists and claims that “the president is playing with words.”
“You do not have to receive a report or letter about the case from the Attorney General’s Office, and the only thing that Prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero could give you would be the investigation folder.” He didn’t do it because he never gave him research folders and no need that exists,” he adds in his answer.
According to the journalist, Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero has been planning since 2019 to use the Colosio case to “get even with the heads of previous governments,” but currently his goal is to intervene in the 2024 electoral process to deprive the opposition of votes.
“López Obrador’s strategic idea … was to use García Luna’s conviction in the Brooklyn trial for ties to the Sinaloa Cartel to target PAN and PRI members during the election campaign, but when the judge postponed the verdict until March, that was Goal had to be changed.
“Salinas was the right person because of the intensive work carried out in the prosecutor’s office for almost a year, with 50 lawyers and public ministries handling the case,” he explains.
The Colosio case file, in which Salinas de Gortari is said to be involved, was opened without mentioning the former president’s name, the analyst clarifies, but Gertz Manero wanted to accuse him from the beginning of Obrador’s six-year term in office.
“As far as is known, the file against Salinas is closed and attempts are also being made to shift the blame to the former head of the Presidential Office, José Córdoba, and to CISEN.”
AND THOSE OF PEÑA AND CALDERÓN?
According to the journalist and political analyst, investigative files were also opened against former presidents Enrique Peña Nieto (PRI) and during the current six-year term Felipe Calderon (PAN).
In the Peña Nieto case, prosecutor Gertz Manero opened an investigation into the Odebrecht case, which also involved his former finance minister Luis Videgaray Caso. But the president stopped him.
“Gertz Manero opened investigation files for Odebrecht against former President Enrique Peña Nieto and his Finance Minister Luis Videgaray, but the President did not authorize him to issue the arrest warrants,” says the journalist.
As for Calderón, he adds, he was investigated by Fast and Furious, the organization that investigated the arms trade and allowed more than 2,500 weapons to enter Mexico illegally.
“The prosecutor obtained the arrest warrant against former president Felipe Calderón for Fast and Furious, but López Obrador ordered him not to carry it out,” says Riva Palacio.
