Prevents increases based on 5% inflation

Billing for services provided by the municipality, such as drinking water and cleaning, is based solely on the inflation index of 5%.

The planned adjustments in the collection of services provided by the municipality such as drinking water, cleaning and others will be based only on the inflation index of 5 percent, so the necessary changes will be made in the proposed Income Law 2024.

The first councilor and president of the Finance Commission in the City Council of Torreón, Luis Jorge Cuerda Serna, said that in recent days the inflation index has been updated, allowing the authorization previously granted by the board of the Municipal Water and Sanitation System (Simas). was ) of eight percent must be changed.

According to Inegi, the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) recorded an increase of 0.32 percent in the first half of August 2023 compared to the previous two weeks. With this result, total annual inflation was 4.67 percent, which is used as the basis for drafting the bill.

Cuerda Serna assured that the municipal administration does not take into account increases that exceed this inflation index, but the previous approval of the drinking water tariffs by the Simas Board of Directors was based on this index from last year, which was eight percent.

On this occasion inflation was lower, so only this five percent adjustment will be made, as was the case in the current local government.

No later than September 15, the Council of Torreón must approve the Income Law Initiative and the 2024 Income Budget to send it to the Congress of the State of Coahuila.
