Preview Big 12: No. 8 Oklahoma St vs Iowa State topped the list

Things to see at Big 12 Week 8:


No. 8 Oklahoma in Iowa. While the Cowboys (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) surprised many with their unbeaten start, Iowa (4-2, 2-1) was in the top 10 at the start of the season before a notable home defeat. Iowa and then fell to Baylor in their Big 12 opening. The Cyclones could still return to play their second consecutive Big 12 championship game. A victory over Oklahoma state will give a big boost. Both teams still have games against the six-time reigning champion Oklahoma in third place. Although Oklahoma has won five of its last six games against Iowa, none of those games have had more than seven points.


TCU and West Virginia are meeting for the 10th time after joining the Big 12 together in 2012. Both lost one-sided in the last game, but all other losses were in games with the same score. The Climbers had extra time to prepare: they were open last week, while the Horned Frogs (3-3, 1-2) lost 52-31 in third place in Oklahoma. West Virginia (2-4, 0-3) lost 45-20 to Baylor in the last game. The Climbers have won their last three games against TCU.


Texas Tech (5-2, 2-2) will attempt to win straight Big 12 games for only the second time in five years and for the first time under third-year coach Matt Wells. The Red Raiders play for Kansas (3-3, 0-3), which has lost its last eight conference games. This is the school’s longest streak of its kind since the Big 12 kicked off in 1996.… Iowa’s RB Brice Hall expanded its Big 12 record to 18 straight games with a fast-paced TD, the longest active streak in the country. … Oklahoma has had winning streaks of at least seven games in each of the past seven seasons. This ended a draw with coach Bud Wilkinson’s record-breaking six straight teams in 1953-58. … There are already three Big 12 teams eligible: No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 8 Oklahoma, and No. 20 Baylor. Texas Tech is the only team with a chance to join them on Saturday.

Kansas (1-5, 0-3) have lost their last 16 meetings against No. 3 from Oklahoma. These losses amount to an average of 31 points, and not less than 14 points. The Suners (7-0, 4-0) have the longest active winning streak in the country with 15 games and lead the Big 12 with 42.7 points and 479 yards per game. Kansas ranks last in both categories with 16.7 points and 321 yards.


Oklahoma State Backback Jaylen Warren has run 659 yards in four games since joining the Cowboys. The Utah pass had 14 transfers for 138 yards in the fourth quarter alone and ended with 193 when the Cowboys gathered to win in Texas. This is his second best of the season. His 218 yards at Boise State at his first start is the best result among big 12 players this season.
