NEW YORK — A 33-year-old Brooklyn man is facing multiple charges in connection with the violent death of his 23-month-old daughter, who died of head injuries, according to a local prosecutor.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Friday that Robert Wright, of Brownsville, has been charged with murder, assault, criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child.

Wright’s allegation relates to an incident that took place in October at a Brooklyn home, according to the investigation Wright shared with his 1-month-old daughter and other family members. Gonzalez cited the investigation as saying that on October 4, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Wright struck his daughter on the back of the head with a closed fist. He then allegedly told investigators that he had dozed off with the girl and hit her when she awoke from the dream.

According to the probe, the girl’s mother returned home after finding her lethargic. Later, relatives noticed that the baby was bleeding from the mouth, Gonzalez said citing the investigation.

The girl was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where scans revealed bleeding and swelling in the brain. He suffered a cardiac arrest before being taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on October 5, which would have been the day before his second birthday. The New York City Medical Examiner later determined that the child had suffered a traumatic brain injury and that the cause of death was a blunt force impact to the head.

“A precious and innocent girl was seriously injured, allegedly at the hands of the man responsible for raising and protecting her. My heart goes out to the girl’s family and we now look forward to holding this defendant accountable.” Will try,” Gonzalez said.

Wright was released on $100,000 bond and ordered to return to court on January 27. Information was not immediately available for a lawyer.
