Can earlier Playstation VR owners play their old games on the new PSVR 2? Sony has given the answer to this question.
Sony’s SVP of Platform Experience Hideki Nishino Has a Bad Answer for Those Who Are Looking for PSVR 2 Backwards Compatibility with PSVR 1 Hope: “PSVR games are incompatible with PSVR 2 because PSVR 2 is designed to deliver a true next generation experience.”
So first PSVR buyers can’t start their game portfolio directly with the new PlayStation VR 2 and enjoy VR gems like Astro Bot Rescue Mission again in high quality.
Playstation VR 2 is incompatible with older PSVR titles
Some PSVR users already expected that the technically heavily modified PSVR 2 would not offer backwards compatibility, at least not at the hardware’s launch. Some expected the older technology to be emulated at least on newer headsets, for example with patches submitted later.
According to Nishino, nothing like this seems to be planned for the foreseeable future. Very different: “The PSVR 2 has completely new controllers with haptic feedback, and many other features like adaptive trigger (…) and inside-out tracking, built-in eye tracking. 3D audio comes into play here — and of course HDR.”
The older system, on the other hand, tracks VR glasses with the front camera installed on the front of the TV. The classic DualShock 4 controller and early motion controllers Input methods with the Playstation Move are quite different from the PSVR 2’s new haptic VR controllers.
PSVR 1 on PS5 – that works
However, there is still a way to enjoy PSVR 5 games on Playstation 5 as good as ever. Older VR glasses owners can contact Sony request an adapter for freeTo plug your old PS4 camera and headset into the PS5.
Technically, PSVR games are backward compatible PS4 titles. However, you do need the right VR hardware to run, such as a Playstation 4 controller and camera.
