CINCINNATI ( Associated Press) – Albert Pujols hit a tiebreaking sacrificial fly in the 13th inning, Lars Knutbar hit a two-run homer and the St. Louis Cardinals used five infielders to stop and win Wednesday. -3 for the Cincinnati Reds.
In their last meet in Cincinnati, Pujols went 0-for-5 but was the hero with a fly ball against Chase Anderson (0-2) to drive off autorunner Paul Goldschmidt with an out. Notbar later dismissed two batsmen.
The Cardinals, the leaders of the NL Central, used an infielder in the 11th for the first time, when Colin Moran came from third place without an outsider.
Moran remained at third base after being dismissed by a ground ball from Cuban Jose Barrero. Then Jake Greeley also walked off the field to shortstop Tommy Edman, who took Moran out at the plate in a decision that was upheld after a review of the video of the play.
The Cardinals again turned to five fielders with one in the 12th inning and Edman dismissed Ostin Romain, trying to score on Alejo López’s groundout, to help Andre Pallante (6-4) win .
Pallante pitched the final three innings, dropping an RBI single to Fraley in the 13th.
Pujols has scored 694 home runs, two less than Alex Rodriguez, who is fourth for the most home runs ever.
The Reds paid tribute to Pujol and Yadier Molina during the pregame ceremony. Both Cardinals star players are due to retire at the end of the season.
For the Reds, Colombian Donovan Solano 5-1. Mexican Alejo Lopez 5-0. Dominican Aristides Aquino scored 3-3, scoring one goal. Cuba’s Jose Barrero scored 5-0, scoring one goal.
For the Cardinals, Dominican Albert Pujols produced 5–0, one. Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 5-1.
