Chandigarh: Punjab government employees who fail to take the first dose of the covid vaccine for reasons other than medical treatment will be sent on compulsory leave after September 15. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday announced tough measures to protect the people of the state from the disease and ensure that those who have been vaccinated do not have to pay the price of indifference to anyone else.
At the Virtual Covid-1 review meeting, the Chief Minister said that the effectiveness of the vaccine was clear from the data analyzed. Special efforts were made to reach out to government employees, and those who avoided vaccinations will now be told to go on leave until the first dose is received.
School Education Secretary Krishna Kumar had earlier said that at present only fully vaccinated staff members are allowed to come to the school.
Health Minister Balbir Sidhu had recommended that the second dose interval for school staff be reduced to 28 days, but Chief Secretary Vinnie Mahajan told the meeting that the Center had rejected the state’s request.
The Chief Minister said with satisfaction that with the aggressive testing, the situation in the schools is under control.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that the stock of vaccines supplied to the State has been utilized without any wastage.
