Puyallap police continue to search for suspects in shooting a duty officer during a burglary

Puyallup police found a silver pickup used by robbers who shot and killed the duty officer early Sunday morning.that tractor salon on the 900th block of River Road.

The officers received a tip that helped them locate the pickup truck, which was stolen early Sunday morning, shortly before the attempted hacking into Jennings’ equipment, Captain Jason Visno said. Police believe that at least two people were involved in the shootout, as the surveillance video recorded two vehicles leaving the scene.

According to a Puyallup Police Department press release, no arrests have been made and the police are still looking for a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup believed to have been driven by one of the individuals involved in the burglary and shooting attempt.

Police and medical units responded to the attempted robbery and gunfire at around 7 a.m. Sunday morning and discovered that Federal Way Police Officer Donovan Hevener was off duty with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Havener was rushed to hospital in Tacoma with life-threatening injuries, according to Facebook post from Federal Way Police Department.

Heavener is still in the hospital, but was able to speak with detectives and is expected to recover, Wischnau said.

According to Federal Way police, the duty officer was jogging Sunday morning when he bumped into suspects trying to break into the tractors.

According to Wischnau, Havener tried to call 911 and may have tried to photograph the suspects when he was shot.
