Queen Elizabeth Cancels Schedule And Accepts Medical Advice For Rest

British Buckingham Palace announced Wednesday that Queen Elizabeth had canceled a planned visit to Northern Ireland and “reluctantly” took medical advice to rest for the next few days.

The palace said in a statement: “Her Majesty is in good spirits and disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she was supposed to have a series of engagements” on Wednesday and Thursday.

The statement went on to say that the Queen is sending “warmest good wishes” to the people of Northern Ireland and hopes to visit them in the future.

The announcement came just days after Elizabeth was seen with a cane in service at Westminster Abbey on the occasion of the centenary of the Royal British Legion, a charitable organization for the armed forces.

She was reportedly previously photographed with a cane in 2003, but that was after she underwent knee surgery. The Associated Press cites a source according to which the Queen’s recent decision was not related to COVID-19.

The 95-year-old queen, widowed this year, is the longest-running reigning monarch in the world. She has a busy schedule of royal duties. On Tuesday, she held an audience with diplomats and hosted a reception at Windsor Castle for world business leaders.

Some information for this report was provided by the Associated Press and Reuters.
