CHICAGO ( Associated Press) — Allie Quigley scored 19 points to score five Chicago players in double digits, Candace Parker added 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Sky won their 91-75 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday. I have never been behind.
The game was a rematch of the previous season’s WNBA Finals, which was won by Chicago. Sky has won both the matches between the teams this season.
Chicago (15–5) have won five games in a row and eight of their last nine and are tied with the Las Vegas Aces in the league standings.
For Chicago, Kahleigh Copper scored 12 points, Rebekah Gardner 11 and Emma Messmann scored 10 points.
Parker hit a 3-pointer and then found Courtney Vanderslut for a lay-up to give Chicago a 9-2 lead and Sky closed the first quarter with a 23-5 run to make 32-12. Dana Evans hit 3 on the buzzer.
Skylar Diggins-Smith led the Mercury with 25 points and four steals. Diamond Deshields added 21 points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes of action, and Sophie Cunningham finished with 12 points. Diana Taurasi finished the season with a two-point low on 1-of-6 shooting.
The Phoenix (9–12) had their own three-game win streak – which corresponded to the longest of the Mercury’s season – for the first time since the franchise and 2012 WNBA MVP Tina Charles, who broke up and lost with the club. Signed a free-agent contract. In February, they mutually agreed to separate on 25 June.
Sky are 12-3 this season when they have scored at least 80 points.
