National Desk: Indian Farmers Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Sunday said that the farmers are ready to protest against the new agricultural laws of the Center ‘by May 2024′ and the farmers’ movement on the borders of Delhi is an ‘ideological revolution’. Addressing a press conference in Nagpur, Tikait said that they want a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP). Farmers have been protesting on the borders of Delhi since 26 November 2020 against agricultural laws. They demand that the three new laws be withdrawn, which the Center has described as a major improvement in agriculture.
Farmers have feared that the new laws will clear the way for MSP to end the security cordon and shut down the mandi system. The Supreme Court last Tuesday stayed the implementation of new agricultural laws till further orders. When asked how long the farmers would perform, Tikait said, “We are ready to perform by May 2024.” We demand that all three laws be withdrawn and the government provide legal guarantee to the MSP. ”
Significantly, the next Lok Sabha elections in the country are likely to be held around April-May 2024. Rejecting allegations of ‘rich farmers’ helping in the demonstration, Tikait said that people from villages and many organizations have participated in it. He said, “This is an ideological revolution of farmers started from Delhi and will not fail.” Farmers in villages want us not to return until the three agricultural bills are withdrawn. ”
Tikait said, “The government is firm on its stand not to withdraw the bills and the agitation will go on for a long time.” He welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to stop the implementation of agricultural laws but said that the apex court The members of the constituted committee supported the agricultural bills.
Tikait said, “We do not want to go before the committee set up by the court. The government has also said that the government and the farmers will find a solution on this issue. ”He also said that opposition parties are weak in the country and hence the farmers had to start this movement against the new laws of the Center. On the notices of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to some people who supported the farmers’ protests, he said, “Those who want to be a part of the movement should be prepared to have court cases, jails and property sealed.” ”
