Rams’ Sean McVeigh says little about Odell Beckham Jr.’s release

Back in 2018, when Odell Beckham Jr. was playing for the New York Giants, the Rams, who weren’t shy about making moves in blockbusters, inquired about trading on the star receiver.

Beckham was released Friday by the Cleveland Browns. Before training, Rams coach Sean McVeigh was asked if the Rams were interested in adding him to the squad.

“We’re not going to get into that sort of thing,” McVeigh said.

Would he like Aries to investigate?

“I would never say anything about something like that,” McVeigh said. “So this is where I’m going to leave it.”

The Rams released receiver DeShawn Jackson on Tuesday, who asked to be traded due to limited options in the Rams’ first seven games. Jackson caught a 75-yard touchdown pass against the Tampa Bay Pirates.

“I’m very grateful to DeShawn for what he did,” McVeigh said. “I think he made a huge contribution to the game against the Bucks against Seattle, who really played an important role in the game that helped us win those football games. …

“He wanted more opportunities, and I think he was not wrong when he thought about it, and we felt that it would be in the best interests.

“But I love DeShawn, I have tremendous respect for the resume, for the work he created, and unfortunately it didn’t work out the way I think either of us hoped or expected.”
