MADRID (NWN) – Real Sociedad interrupted a four-way draw in the top division of the Spanish league by beating Celta Vigo 2-0 on Thursday.
Alexander Isak and Aritz Elustondo scored goals in the second half, restoring the Basque Country club to the sole lead after 11 matches. He is three points ahead of Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis.
Madrid and Sevilla, who drew on Wednesday, are on the bench. Betis, who defeated Valencia, has the same 11 points as Sociedad. “Madrid” kept Osasuna at home, and “Sevilla” drew in Mallorca.
The win extended Sociedad’s unbeaten streak to 10 straight matches, with seven wins and three draws, including 2-2 against reigning champion Atletico Madrid last Sunday.
Sociedad are unbeaten in 13 consecutive games in all competitions, their only defeat in the first league match against Barcelona at the Camp Nou stadium.
Celta Vigo, who has lost five of six home games this season, remained in 14th place with 10 points in 11 games.
Isak opened the scoring for the guests at close range in the 54th minute after video review intervened to cancel an offside position. Elastondo took the lead after a corner in 79th place.
Atlético may be among the runners-up after beating Levante, which has yet to be won this season. The team coached by Diego Simeone has an advantage over Sociedad.
GETAFE IS STILL FREE
Getafe, who finished in last place, was the only other team not to win with Levante after leveling the score seven minutes before the second half was stopped in Granada.
Former Getafe striker Jorge Molina scored a late header from the home team after a corner kick.
Enes Unal put Getafe ahead in 36th place.
Granada striker Luis Suarez missed a penalty in 78th position.
Granada, which won only once this season, remained outside the relegation zone, five points ahead of Getafe.
