Cincinnati ( Associated Press) — Jose Barrero hit a tiebreaking RBI single in Cincinnati’s three-run fifth inning, and the Reds broke a five-game winning streak with an 8-5 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
Aristides Aquino hit a three-run homer for Cincinnati, and Austin Romain hit a two-run double. It was Aquino’s first home run since scoring two goals against the Cubs on May 23.
It was the Reds’ most runs since their 8–2 win over Baltimore on July 30.
Joel Kuhnell (2-1) played two shutout innings to secure the win. Alexis Diaz hit Nelson Velázquez and Ian Happ with loaded bases in the eighth before recording his fifth save.
Cincinnati’s Joy Votto made the 1,989th appearance of his career, breaking the tie with Hall of Famer Larry Walker for the most Canadian-born players in major league history.
The teams scored four home runs and 10 runs in the first four innings.
For the Reds, Mexican Alejo López with an RBI 3-2. Colombia’s Donovan Solano scored two runs 4-2. Dominican Aristides Aquino scored 4-1 with one run and three RBIs. Cuban Jose Barrero runs 4-2 and with an RBI.
For the Cubs, Venezuelan Rafael Ortega 1-0. Puerto Rican Nelson Velázquez 2-1. Dominican Franmil Reyes 5-1, Christopher Morell 3-1 and with an RBI. Brazil’s Yan Gomes scored a run and went 3-1 with two RBIs.
