Reilly beat Leafs to Rangers for 10th win in 11 games

TORONTO (NWN) – Morgan Reilly scored twice as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New York Rangers 2-1 on Thursday night for their 10th win in 11 games.

Jack Campbell scored 27 goals for Toronto.

Dryden Hunt scored for New York and Igor Shesterkin blocked 28 shots.

Rangers came up with four straight victories, and scored points in eight of their last nine, but were unable to generate much attack until the third period.

The Leafs have won five straight and are 10-1-0 since a four-game slide.

Panthers 4, Devils 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (NWN) – Spencer Knight made a career-high 45 saves to lift Florida over New Jersey.

The Panthers extended their home regular-season winning streak to 13 games from the previous season.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Anthony Duclair had a goal each and an assist, and Etu Luostarinen and Carter Verheghe also scored for the Panthers, who are 9-0-0 at home this season. His 13-game streak is the 20th longest in NHL history.

Dougie Hamilton scored for the Devils.

Lightning 4, Flyers 3, SO

PHILADELPHIA (NWN) — Steven Stamkos and Braden Point each scored in a shootout and regulation goal to lift Tampa Bay over Philadelphia.

Matthew Joseph also scored in regulation for two-time Stanley Cup champions Lightning, who have won seven of nine.

Claude Giroux scored twice and Travis Konecki also scored a goal for the Flyers, who have lost eight consecutive regular season games to Tampa Bay.

Stamkos and Pointe defeated Flyers goalkeeper Carter Hart on Blocker’s side in a tiebreaker, and Philadelphia’s Sean Couturier and Giroux could not convert.

Buffalo, NY (NWN) — Jacob Markstrom made 27 saves for his fifth shutout, Andrew Mangiapen had two goals and an assist as Calgary beat Buffalo.

Calgary also got two goals from Johnny Goudreau, one goal and one assist from Matthew Tkachuk and two assists from Christopher Tanev.

Markstrom’s five shutouts at 13 lead the NHL and are at career highs.

Buffalo’s Dustin Tokarski intercepted 18 of 23 shots and was replaced for the third period by Aaron Dale, who made 10 saves.

MONTREAL (NWN) — Teddy Bluger scored two goals and Pittsburgh pounded Montreal to snap a three-game skid.

Tristan Jerry stops all 24 shots for the Penguins.

Pittsburgh exploded in the first period with goals from Sidney Crosby, Denton Heinen and Jake Guenzel. Blüger and Brock Gill scored in the second, and Blüger scored at the end of the third-period.

Jonathan Dahlen’s goal for the Sharks ended a shutout streak for Huso in 163 minutes, 2 seconds. The Blues’ backup goalkeeper had blocked 86 straight shots since May 8, 2021.

Robert Thomas and Jordan Cairo also scored for the Blues.

James Reimer made 44 saves for the Sharks, who lost three of four.
