Rep. Kind endorses Pfaff in Wisconsin congressional race

Madison, Wisconsin. Outgoing Congressman Ron Kind on Thursday supported his former employee, State Senator Brad Pfaff, in the race for his seat in the Congressional District in southwest Wisconsin.

The support came the day after another Democrat, Oh Claire business woman Rebecca Cook, took part in the race. Republican Derrick Van Orden, a former Navy SEAL who was defeated by Kind in 2020, is running again and has the backing of former President Donald Trump and the leadership of the House of the Republic.

Kind, who has served for over 24 years, cited Pfaff’s roots in the county and said he would be “an advocate for farmers, small businesses, workers and families in western Wisconsin.”

Pfaff grew up on a dairy farm in La Crosse County and was elected to the state Senate in 2020. He briefly served as Secretary of State for Agriculture under Gov. Tony Evers before Senate Republicans actually fired him, rejecting his approval.

The Third District of the United States Congress encompasses a number of counties along the western border of Wisconsin, including La Crosse and Eau Claire. Kind has held the seat for over 24 years, but announced in August that he would not seek re-election.

In recent elections, the congressional constituency was more conservative and the race is expected to be one of the most competitive in 2022.
