Hotel and restaurant Bad Bubendorf is taking a five percent energy cost contribution from this week.
A casual evening with a hoop bleu and a glass of wine at the Bad Bubendorf BL restaurant. But the bill has a surprise: instead of 143 francs, a Blick reader should pay 150 francs. Since this week, Bad Bubendorf is charging an energy cost contribution of five percent. Up to a limit of 999 francs, each bill is automatically added.
“We were so surprised by the contribution to energy costs, we think it’s cheeky,” say Blick readers. There will be no other suggestion.
Electricity prices increased tenfold
Felix Sühner (58), who runs Bad Bubendorf, other hotels and a restaurant, shows understanding to his customers’ displeasure: “We had to make this temporary contribution because our electricity cost increased tenfold from five centimeter per kilowatt hour to 50. It’s a centimeter.” The entrepreneur terminated his electricity contracts on an annual basis.
At the end of last year, when prices were 25 centimeter per kilowatt hour, they decided to pay daily electricity price. In the summer, the price rose sharply. “The cost of electricity is now one tenth of our operating cost. This is an unprecedented situation,” says Sunner to Blick.
So that their operations remain profitable after a challenging corona pandemic and in times of shortage of skilled workers, Suhner introduced additional costs: “We didn’t want to hide the cost in our prices. Instead, when booking and on the menu Declare a temporary surcharge. As electricity prices fall again, the surcharge can be reduced again or eliminated altogether.
Gastro Association Concerned
According to the GastroSuisse Gastronomy Association, six out of ten catering establishments are concerned about potential energy shortages. “But the industry association is calling on politicians to act quickly to stop the explosion in electricity and gas costs. Otherwise, the existence of thousands of companies is threatened,” the association said in a recent press release.
