PHOENIX ( Associated Press) — Edwin Rios and Mookie Bates hit back-to-back homers in the second inning, Tree Turner added a single shot in the sixth and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Friday night.
It was the second win of the series for the Dodgers, who hit a season-high 24 in a 14-1 victory on Thursday. The game was not one-sided, but Los Angeles was still in control most of the night.
Batting ninth in the stacked Dodgers lineup, Rios pulled a fastball over the right-field wall off Madison Bumgarner for a three-run homer and a 3-0 lead. It was his sixth homer this season.
Bates without a doubt followed on the left which made the advantage 4-0.
It was clear that Bumgarner (2-3) didn’t have his best stuff. The lefty struggled with command throughout the night – even throwing a pitch past Justin Turner – and conceded five runs in six innings.
The Dodgers have won 11 of 13 and lead the National League with a 31–14 record.
Los Angeles rookie Ryan Pepiot dropped a run in 4 1/3 innings in his third major league debut. The right-hander played four unscored innings before running into trouble in the fifth. The Diamondbacks loaded the base with a single out, but reliever Brusadar Greatroll (1-2) got out of the jam, allowing only one run to score on the sacrificial fly.
D-Back rallied close to Craig Kimbrel in ninth, but could not finish the job. Josh Rojas had an RBI double and Christian Walker knocked off another with a run-scoring groundout to pull it within 6-4, but Kimbrel mixed David Peralta on a game-ending groundout.
big bet
Bates’ homer was his 13th this season and maintained a sensational vibe. He has safely hit 28 of 33 matches since April 19 and entered Friday’s batting. 341 with 27 RBI and 41 runs on the same stretch.
