Riverside authorities are in advanced discussions with Ohmio, a New Zealand manufacturer of autonomous electric minibuses, to bring its vehicles to the city. The city council voted in favor of allocating $2.5 million for the purchase or lease of three Ohmio minibuses, as well as for financing drivers, insurance, maintenance, chargers and electricity. If the deal is approved, Ohmio could begin operations in Riverside as early as 2024. The company has already signed a letter of intent to lease a 30,000-square-foot facility in the Hunter Park industrial area. The first vehicles assembled at Riverside are expected to be available next year, and Ohmio estimates the company could create up to 30 jobs over the next three years.
Ohmio has already deployed its minibuses in several locations around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Luxembourg and New York. The minibuses have a capacity of up to 20 passengers and can operate autonomously, providing a convenient and sustainable transportation solution.
In addition to the Ohmio project, Riverside will also welcome a new brewery, distillery and restaurant to the city. Left Coast Brewing Co. signed a lease with The Collection, a shopping center under construction in Ontario. The new venue will offer space for private dining, patio reservations and a wide selection of craft beer, vodka, gin, whiskey, rum and tequila.
In addition, SAC Health System launched a mobile healthcare bus to provide primary care services to San Bernardino residents. The mobile clinic, funded by federal funds sponsored by Rep. Pete Aguilar, will offer family medicine, pediatrics, women’s health services and community specialties, regardless of ability to pay or insurance status.
These developments will contribute to the development and access to services in the Riverside area, demonstrating the city’s commitment to innovation and improving the quality of life of its residents.
