The rocker, who celebrated his 77th birthday on Monday, was left heartbroken when the 50-year-old model left him several years ago.

The now-smoking couple overcame the rocky patch and turbulent times inspired Rod to sing about it on his 2013 album Time.
The crooner explained to the publication: ‘I cover Tom Waits’ picture in a frame.
‘Penny and I were separated for two weeks and the song is about that time. I asked him for a picture of myself in a frame so that I can see him when I go to bed and when I leave.’

Rod is a proud father – eight – four sons and four daughters – and has been married three times.
He co-parents 42-year-old Kimberly and 41-year-old Sean with first wife Alana Stewart.
His second marriage was to model Rachel Hunter and the pair are 29-year-old Renee and 27-year-old Liam.
He shares Ruby, 34, with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, and Sarah, 58, with another ex-partner, Susanna Boffi.
Rod and Penny are parents to 16-year-old son Alistair and 10-year-old Aiden.

The London-born rockstar elaborated on the lessons he learned in love and marriage, admitting he ‘took a lot of risks’ when it came to romance.
‘My relationship rule is, ‘Don’t argue after a glass of wine, leave arguing until morning,’ he explained.
‘I’ve always loved women, some won, some lost, but it’s not about the magic touch, it’s about being a better person and a good listener.
‘I met Penny in my 50s and I would never have been leaving if I hadn’t learned up to that point in my life.’

On Monday, the birthday boy marked his 77th birthday with a dapper Instagram post.
A fit and booted Rod looked debonair in a white suit jacket, posing a picture with two identical spruce doormen.
Pointing to his Scottish ancestry, the singer wrote: ’77 has never felt so good!! Let’s Celtic’.
