According to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer is 99% fit and his injury is not a cause for concern for the World Cup. Iyer had returned from the Asia Cup after being sidelined for a long time due to a back injury.
Speaking to the media after the last game in Colombo, Rohit gave an update on the injuries to Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel.
Let us know the important things about Rohit…
Shreyas fits almost 99%
“Shreyas is almost 99% fit.” He has worked hard for this. He has been in the field for hours and is currently on the verge of becoming fully fit. I don’t think there’s any reason to worry.
Iyer played in the first two matches of the Shreyas Asia Cup. In the first match against Pakistan, he played an innings of 14 runs. He had no chance to bat against Nepal. His back pain then recurred and he did not play in the next three games. In the Super 4 match against Pakistan, he suffered back spasms five minutes before the toss and did not take part in the remaining India matches.
According to Rohit’s statement, Iyer is expected to remain in the World Cup team, before that he will also feature in the three-match series against Australia.
Akshar could miss the first two games against Australia
“It seems he (Akshar Patel) will not be available for a week or 10 days.” We will have to wait and see how his recovery goes. Although I’m not sure, I have a feeling he won’t be available for the first two ODIs against Australia.
Axar suffered a left wrist injury during the match against Bangladesh and Washington Sundar was included in the team in his place.
Many people are lining up for the role of spin all-rounder
“There are a lot of people who are vying for the role of spin all-rounder for the World Cup, including R Ashwin. “I talk to him all the time on the phone too. The same goes for Washington Sundar. We want a player who can play his role with both the ball and the bat.
