October 7 (WNN) — a developmental workshop for Romy and Michelle: The Musical, based on the beloved 1997 film, is being staged in New York City on October 14 and 15.
The film’s screenwriter, Robin Schiff, wrote the production, which includes a new 1980s and ’90s-inspired pop music score by Gwendoline Sanford and Brandon Jay, representatives for the show said in a press release Wednesday.
Kristin Hanggi – Broadway’s to whose credits include rock of Ages – Directing the project.
“For most of us, the thought of living high school again is nothing short of a nightmare. So if we ever return, even for just one night, it’s going to be in style. When Romy and Michelle are invited to their 10-year reunion, they devise an outrageous plan to re-invent themselves and impress their former classmates,” a synopsis said.
movie, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow starred as the title characters. The cast also included Alan Cumming, Jayne Garofalo and Justin Theroux.
Next week’s Theater Workshop stars Brittany Johnson as Romy, Lena Rae Concepción as Michelle, Jordan Kai Burnett as Heather Mooney, Michael Starr as Billy Christiansen, Chad Burris as Toby Walters, Tally Leung as Sandy Frink and Tess Soltau as Christie Masters will be shown.
