AUSTIN, Texas — Ross Chastain hit his first career Cup win on Sunday around the final overtime lap at Circuit of the Americas and NASCAR Team Trackhouse Racing’s first trip down the victory lane.

The trackhouse is owned by former NASCAR driver Justin Marks and entertainer Pitbull and is in the competition’s second season. Chastain, an eighth-generation watermelon farmer from Florida, was hired by Marks for Trackhouse when Marks bought Chip Ganassi’s entire NASCAR team earlier this season.

Chastain celebrated by cutting a large watermelon from the top of his Chevrolet.

“It’s never tasted sweet, I tell you,” said the 29-year-old, sticking a rind in his beard. Then he took another big bite.
